August 30, 2012-
I nearly forgot to post about the elementary school open house last week! I've been taking most of my photos with my handy iPhone but for the open house I thought I'd be like most of the other parents and take photos with a "real" camera. Only to then to later forget about those photos. Oops.
Anyway, here are the photos from the open house on Thursday morning. FYI- it's going to be a very fast tour as we only get about fifteen minutes in each classroom.
First up, Ava's first grade classroom:
Ava has her clipboard in hand- she's ready to show us her room! The kids all have a checklist of items they need to show their parents. Off we go!!!
Here she's showing us where her workbooks are kept.
OOooooooo…..check out the computers the kids get to work on:
iMacs!!!!!
Ava, I'm so proud that of your penmanship improvement!
What's on the schedule for today in Ava's class????
Ava, what else do we need to see?
Beautiful writing sample.
Now it's time to go see Annika and have her show us around her classroom:

Annika's drawing….part of the line-up of illustrated classroom rules.
Unit of Inquiry board…the fourth graders are learning about different governments (i.e. anarchy, communism, democracy, monarchy)
Writing Focus board
Annika needs to look through her desk to find a notebook.
She's showing us her classroom library.
Her small locker (on the bottom)
And now let's go check out the art room and see what's in store for art classes this year:
Here's what the first grade will be doing….
Annika standing next to her drawing and examples what fourth grade classes will be doing in art this year.
The school has divided all the students into four different houses:
Go WIND DRAGONS!!!! We're in the Yellow House – the Wind Dragons!!!!!
Let's head down the hallway and go to Chinese language class.
It's so cool that the girls are learning Chinese!!!!
Look at all the things they are learning in their class.
Annika showing us her drawing.

Okay, one last place on the girls' check-list: the Music Room. The Music Room is located in the other building (called the Han Building….which also houses the school's library and all the secondary classes):

Annika showing us some of the music books they sometimes use in their music class.
Whew! That was the FAST fast tour of the girls' classrooms! At least we got a glimpse of what they're doing and what they will hopefully learn over the next year.
I think it's going to be a great year!!!
