So glad you're back! Are you ready to head over to the Ginza cooking school building here at the resort???
Is it just me or does it seem weird to get soooooo excited to take a cooking class? It's not like I don't cook almost every day of the week!
BUT (and this is a BIG but) this is Thai food we're talking about. And I L.O.V.E. to eat Thai food but I haven't tried to make it at home. Maybe this class will take the mystery out of cooking Thai style so that we can enjoy it at home!
What do you say??? Are you game to spend a few hours attempting to learn how to cook Thai food?
🙂
It looks like we'll be cooking three different dishes in our class. We're going to make**:
- Gaeng Phed Ped Yang (or Roasted Duck Curry)
- Yum Woon Sen Gai Sub (Glass Noodle Salad)
- Tod Mun Goong (Deep Fried Shrimp Cake)
Hmmm….I don't think I've tried any of these dishes before, have you???
Our instructor will first demonstrate what we're supposed to do and then we get busy making it ourselves!
First up…Roasted Duck Curry.
The duck has already been roasted so all we need to do is chop the remaining ingredients and make the curry!
Chopping the hot pepper. Thank you Mark for tackling this task!!! That cutting board? It's made of tamarind wood. Cool!
Cooking the curry…
ta da!!! All finished!
Next up are the Deep Fried Shrimp Cakes
Pounding the cilantro, garlic and black pepper into oblivion using a mortar and pestle.
Forming the shrimp cake patties and covering them with course bread crumbs.
Fortunately for me…and you, the instructor will cook the shrimp cakes in the very hot oil. So glad it isn't me doing that. I'd almost certainly end up burning myself!!!
And finally…Glass Noodle Salad
Chopping the onion
Mixing all the ingredients in the metal bowl
Isn't that just the coolest vent hood? It looks like a giant bean pod or something!
Wow! That's a LOT of ginger!! (gorgeous veggie display)
I couldn't help myself. I took a photo of a sink! A sink!!! (which I happen to think is very cool!)
Okay! We've got our goodies (meaning the food we cooked) all packaged up and we're going to share with the girls. Say…it might be time to go check and see how they're doing at the resort's kids' club!!!!
Oh my!!!! It seems that our sweet little girls have turned into Kitty Cats!!!
🙂
Shall we go eat our dinner outside next to the pool? I think I spot a table…
On second thought…look at those dark clouds that look like they're heading our way. I wonder if we should head for cover????
Too Late!!!!! WOW! When it rains here it REALLY rains!
Ummm…maybe we'll eat our lovely meal in our room instead!!!!
One last look at two very cute kitty cats:
Tomorrow is going to be a big day…we've signed you up to do the all-day Phuket Adventure (private) Tour (it's supposed to be a land-based, guided tour). Who knows what we'll see and do???!?
So go get some rest and we'll see you in the morning!!!!
**PS. Please let me know if you're interested in any of the recipes. I'd be more than happy to pass them along to you. All the dishes were yummy!
