There are days when we just like to hang out at the house and not go anywhere. Mind you, we do love exploring China. We love finding new places- shops, markets, restaurants, attractions and so on….but sometimes one just needs to take a break. Know what I mean????
How about some arts and crafts projects:
July 20, 2012:
Annika has been itching to do a sewing project. Trouble is she isn't patient enough to listen to my instructions (plus, I'm not really any good at sewing). Thank goodness for the sewing kit for children we brought with us from the USA!!! When Annika saw the cat project in the kit she jumped at the chance to make it. All I told her was to read and follow the instructions. :-) About an hour later and she had this cat finished! Sometimes learning by doing it yourself is a fine way of learning.
July 23, 2012:
I've had two craft projects pinned on Pinterest to try out, both (ahem) are owls. (you're not surprised that I would choose owls for a craft project, are you???)
July 24, 2012:
You may or may not remember the Fairy Village we'd painted while we were still living in the USA. Well, we brought the village with us (it's not as cleverly set up though- the houses are just piled into the top shelf of the bookcase in the girls' play area). I also brought two- only two- unpainted wooden "birdhouses" for the girls to paint. Why didn't I buy a huge stack of them at Michael's when I had the chance??? Oh well. My acrylic paint supply is also running low (yes, it looks like I have a lot of paint but the fact is many of the tubes only contain a drop or two of paint. I can't make myself get rid of them!!! I'm trying to get every last drop out of them).

And here are some home made Scooby Snacks (getting ready for a trip into the oven)!!!! The girls have been begging to make cookies and since they've been watching a lot of Scooby Doo lately I suggested Scooby snacks. I did a preliminary search online for a recipe and came up with some good ideas and some idea that *cough, cough* I will never make (as in they contained "magic herbs"- NO, NO, NO!!!!!). I didn't find anything that sounded exactly like I was looking for so we opted to make oatmeal cookies. Normally the batter is too thin for rolling out and cutting it into shapes so I added extra flour to the dough and chilled it in the fridge overnight. OH! The wait!!! It nearly killed the girls! (Or so they wanted to claim!!!)
The next day Annika was in charge of rolling out the dough and cutting out the bone shapes. We baked them up and after they'd cooled Annika wrote "SS" for Scooby Snacks with edible ink on each cookie. Yum, yum!!!
Hmmm…what should be our next craft project???
