IST School Picnic

September 22, 2012-

Are you ready for three hours of fun???  Or….in my case….three hours of watching my girls run and play with their friends????

Today is the IST School Picnic!

Let me tell you- the girls have been talking about this picnic all. week. long! So, I'm glad it's finally here.  I'm not in the best mood (feeling very melancholy as I just received the news that my Oma had passed away yesterday) and I'm flying solo.  Honestly, I'm not feeling sociable.  And I hope that's okay! 🙂  At least my friend, Debbie, is here.

I hope you brought a picnic blanket and some goodies to munch on.  Find a spot for your blanket and sit with me while we people watch and listen to the fun music the band is playing.

The band was actually really good and fun to listen to! I recognized one or two teachers in there- not sure if this is a teacher-only band or what. All I can say is that I truly enjoyed listening to them!!!

The PFO (Parent Faculty Organization) has several booths with lots of different things for sale- from mugs to shirts to notepads, stickers and temporary tattoos. Kind of covers all the bases, don't you think? And of course I'm going to buy something….like shirts, notepads and stickers!  ;-)

Lots of families

Lots of families ….and several soccer – of if you're from anywhere else in the world other than the USA, football- games happening. I think there's one going on – parents versus kids (must be secondary kids as I don't see any little kids on the field).

Jennifer is manning a BUBBLE machine! Oooo! So many happy little children!

Ava and Juandre playing with their newly purchase notepads on our picnic blanket.  They were talking about going on a treasure hunt.  Hmmmm….wonder what they found!
How many other picnic blankets look identical to mine at this picnic??? (it's because we bought them in China at a sporting goods store called Decathlon)

And just outside the school grounds…just on the other side of the school fences- this is what life looks like:

Dirty, filthy and somewhat frightening.  Yes, that is trash strewn EVERYWHERE.

A stark contrast to the cleanliness and relative safety we feel when we're on the school property!!!

(I quickly ducked into one of the markets to buy a few veggies and apples while Debbie watched the girls for me)

It's 3:00pm and I think it's time to head home.  I can hear lots of unhappy sounds coming from the wee little ones that had to miss their naps today due to the picnic.  Yep.  Time to go! 🙂  I hope you enjoyed the picnic. I just enjoyed watching the kids play and listening to the band.  Kind of nice just to have time to chill out.
