Happy (first) Mother’s Day in China!

Happy day-before-Mother's-Day-day.  Let's celebrate with lunch at a fantastic French restaurant with friends in the lovely Italian District!

What??? Did we seriously forget to take photos of our friends????   I guess we were too busy eating and having a lovely time!

After our fantastic lunch we attempted to find the biggest flower market in Tianjin.  I'm not sure what we did find but it wasn't what we were expecting!

Turtles. Snails. Crabs.  Why????

And ….Scorpions????????? Seriously!  Why???

Chirping crickets.

Ah yes.  Thank goodness there are actually flowers for sale in this market.

And now for Mother's Day….how about a walk and a picnic at the Tianjin section of the Great Wall?  It's just what I wanted!!!

And what a fantastic day for trip to the Wall!  There were very few other visitors so we got to have a relaxing, stress-free walk.  Apparently the following weekend the Great Wall Marathon was held at this section of the Wall. Ow, ow, ow, ow.  I'm signing up for the 5K Great Wall run next year!  Come join me!!!!!

I hope you're up for a hike!  This is a one-way walk…we're at the point of no return!  We have to walk all the way down the wall until we reach the car. (a cart drove us from the parking lot up to the "starting point" of our walk…noting there is no real starting point- unless you count where the wall meets up with the ocean).

Yowsers!  Those are some VERY steep steps!

Down we go!

The serene view from above.  And this fog is just that- low clouds.  Not smog!  The air really does smell better here.

Down, down, down we go…
IMG_3176and we will pass by a maze of sorts…
