Let's hop in the car and head out to….

The Binhai Aircraft Carrier Military Theme Park!  

Ummmmm…..Do you see what is on the window of the tiny green car? WHY????????

We're here!  We've arrived!!!!

The requisite poses:

 This sculpture will go down as a "What The Heck???".

Why, oh why, is there a giant corn cob sculpture in front of the aircraft carrier?????????

Of course ….as with any tourist trap….there are the tourist trap shops selling the most unusual "things":

Check out the souvenirs- they're made out of spent bullet cartridges.

The guys in the group realized this helicopter wasn't a real helicopter….it's just a shell!!!!

Everyone knows that Climding is dangerous!

Roaming around inside the aircraft carrier….flipping switches, pressing buttons, pushing levers wherever and whenever possible!

A map we discovered in one of the rooms:

Can you tell what language the map is written in? ??? It makes sense- this is after all a Russian ship!!!!

Looks like something from one of the old "Dr. Who" episodes!

Ok, so why is South Africa enlarged on this map??? Was it the last location the Russian carrier was planning an attack on??? LOL! Just kidding!!!! (by the way, if you don't already know- our friends are from South Africa!)

And now here's something completely different (or not)….

Let's watch two dragons dancing down below with loud drumming music. Why???????? (because we're in China, that's why!) Check out the stadium seats in the background. Those seats will become more relevant in the next set of photos!

 Now, what else could be missing from this so-called Theme Park???  Hmmmm….fake helicopter – check, plenty of buttons and levers to push – check, lots of souvenirs made out of bullets – check.  

But, you know, there's one thing that's missing:

It's a staged gun fight!  I mean, why the heck not????!  At least that makes more sense than a giant ear of corn statue and the two dragons dancing. Most of the actors were not Asian but the dialogue (clearly pre-recorded) was all in Chinese.  It was hilarious to watch but I'm glad we didn't pay extra to sit in the stadium seats to watch it.  We met one of the actors who was involved in this skit while we were eating lunch at a restaurant located on the premises.  He was an American (yay!) but he said some things that made us shake our heads (boo!).  Just goes to show there are all sorts of people in this world!!
