Ava’s birthday photos continued….

Happy 10th birthday to our Avie Baby!!!!

Here are a few more photos from her actual birthday and from the small birthday party we had at the Galaxy Mall ice skating rink (Tianjin, China).

Ava's favorite birthday pie…lemon meringue!

Yummy, we love lemon meringue pie!!!IMG_7882

Ha!  Ava really wanted a bubble gum making kit…here it is!!!IMG_7892

Want to grow your own crystals? (You don't need a kit to do this but it's fun to get a kit):IMG_7898

Annika gave Ava this nifty hoodie – it's wired for sound! (no, really!  It really does have ear phones)IMG_7904

Ava wanted to get started on her bubble gum kit….IMG_7908

Ava wanted it to be blue – she added food dye and Mark stirred it:IMG_7922

Mixing it with powdered sugar:IMG_7923

Cutting the gum into bite-sized chunks:IMG_7934

And????  How was it??IMG_7940

It's bubble gum!!!  I tried a piece – it was good tasting. Sadly, it's not sugar-free.IMG_7943

Happy birthday Ava!!!IMG_7946

Can anybody read Sanskrit???IMG_7916

Face-timing with cousins…Here Ava is chatting with Lily:IMG_7949

The following day this tank of helium (we'd order through a friend on TaoBao) arrived.  Ava wanted to do an experiment…we wanted to see how many balloons it would take to lift one of her stuffed toys.  We tried to do some initial calculations based on the weight of the toy and the lifting power of the helium. IMG_7951

Working on blowing up balloons:IMG_7963

Getting closer!

And it's up!!!IMG_7975

I'll have to ask Ava the details but we were close on our balloon estimate (it took one or two extra balloons more to actually lift the toy):IMG_7977

Lemon meringue pie bites for Ava's birthday party:IMG_8005

At the ice skating rink:

Anna, Gemma, Poppy, and Ava at the rink.  (Annika also got to have friends: Mimi and Vivienne.  The older girls were cheaters – they skated only for a few minutes before opting to wander around the mall for a few minutes while the younger girls tried their best to stay upright on their skates! HA!)IMG_8009

Special balloons waiting for Ava:IMG_8025

Mark and I also tried skating.  My skates were really dull – they need to be sharpened!  No, I didn't fall. ;-) IMG_8030

Upstairs from the ice skating rink we found a couple of empty tables were we could eat our little lemon meringue pie bites and sing happy birthday to Ava:IMG_8037

Finally, Annika, Mimi and Viv decided to join us.
