Pura Ulun Danu Beratan in Bali

We're back in the van and we're making our way towards

Pura Ulun Danu Beratan

It's a series of small temples located right on the edge of a Lake Beratan on the northern side of Bali.  You can read more about the temples >here<.

Attempting to get a decent family photo at the entrance of the complex.  Ava decided that it was a perfect opportunity to make all sorts of weird faces for the photos.  Gee, thanks. Can we please just get one photo of us looking somewhat happy and "normal"?????

It's funny, while we didn't need a guide to enjoy the waterfall it would have been nice to have had a guide to learn more about the various temples at this large, beautiful open complex.  We didn't really have a clue what we were looking at as we wandered on the well-beaten path.  We just followed the throngs of tourists like sheep. LOL.  Such beautiful but small buildings.  Are these really temples?

The weather couldn't have been more perfect – cloudy but with the sun peaking through.  This location is several hundred meters above sea level so it's also much cooler.

Yikes!  This monkey warrior statue is pretty darn intimidating!IMG_5923

We found an open field which was the perfect spot to let the kids run and play.  Especially for the smallest person in our group (Mumu).  IMG_5930

I watched as several uniformed guards went up and chatted with this man fishing at the lake.  There were several other fishermen in the area and the guards yelled at them – couldn't understand what they were saying (perhaps fishing isn't allowed?).IMG_5931

The temple grounds were beautifully planted and maintained.  Lots of interesting statues scattered throughout the area.  We also found small deer that were hanging out in a small caged enclosure.

Now we're off to find a place that sells Balinese grown coffee and spices. 🙂
