Bali…. bits and pieces

7 April 2016-

After visiting the temple……

We're visiting an interesting stand that sells different locally grown spices (think cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla bean, pepper)…and the world famous Luwak coffee.  What is Luwak coffee?  It's coffee that has been "processed" by a luwak (civet).  Meaning, the animal eats the beans and poops them out.  Mmmm….sounds delicious, doesn't it?  It's also extremely expensive. IMG_8748

Taste testing various flavored coffees.  They're sweet too – reminds me of the powdered coffee mixes you can buy in the USA. IMG_8759

The taste testing of the regular Bali coffee was free but Mark wanted to try a cup of the Luwak coffee (which had an extra fee).  They made the coffee using this special coffee maker.  Have you seen one of these before?  Not me!

On the way back to our rental villa we stopped at a fruit and veggie market.  IMG_5961

IMG_5962 Loads of gorgeous fruits!  We got some passionfruit to try….IMG_5964While we were at the market the skies open up and it started to RAIN!  A deep, cleansing rain.  Time to go home!

Back at the villa, Mark discovered his special twin banana:

Breakfast at Taman Sari before heading back to Denpasar via a stop in Ubud. IMG_5967 IMG_5969
View from our drive back to Denpasar.  The hills were covered with blue hydrangeas – looked like orchards (some looked weedier than others).

Market in Ubud.  Sadly I only had an hour to explore.  NOT ENOUGH TIME.  Ubud is known as the arts and crafts capital of Bali.  Certainly lots to see and do!  We did enjoy some ice cream on this hot, hot day.IMG_8781

Wow!  How cool!  We saw these while driving in the van…just passing by. Sigh. No time to stop. Darn!  I love how the glass and wood mingle perfectly together.IMG_8783Back at the airport! Time for us to go our separate ways.  David, Lynn, and Mumu are heading to Singapore while we're heading back to Tianjin via a one-night stop-over in Hong Kong. Thank goodness for airport hotels!

So much time has passed by…and so much has happened since our trip to Bali!  I'm hoping to have more photos to share with you this week before our summer holiday. Are you ready for summer????
