Fourth Grade Science Fair

November 8, 2012 –

Annika's class has been hard at work on a science UOI (that stands for Unit of Inquiry).  In particular, they were studying about the different forms of matter and doing experiments, recording their observations and creating posters for their small science fair.

The parents were invited to this science fair and we were given a small sheet with helpful questions to ask the young scientists about their experiments.  Then we were let lose!

Annika chose to do the Mentos and Coke experiment. We've done this experiment back home in the USA with gushing results (literally!) but sadly she didn't get the same reaction.  She used only regular Coke and fruit flavored Mentos…I think perhaps she needs to try the experiment again with Diet Coke and Coke Zero and the original Mentos candies.  I found those original Mentos too late at the tiny market. Darn.

We got permission for Ava to attend the science fair (Ava requested to see the fair).

Andreinna's milk, food dye and dish soap experiment produced mezmerizing results:

Lots of science projects:

After spending our allotted time questioning the young scientists we all got to enjoy the treats that the parents brought for the Parent Tea:

Check out this cute cupcake cake! I can't tell if it's supposed to be a graduated cylinder overflowing or a volcano. Either way it's cool! Fernanda's mom made this lovely creation.

Thanks fourth graders for an interesting science fair!!!
