end of school year = mixed emotions

Lately, I'm a train wreck.  Or that I'm on a train that's about to wreck. Okay…so I'm not a train but perhaps you get the picture.  It's been a rough couple of weeks.

You know that feeling of anxiety filling dread combined with the anticipation of joy?

Yeah- I'm feeling that now.

Not my most favorite set of emotions.

I'm completely ecstatic at the thought of school getting out. SUMMER!!!!! No more rude early morning wake-up calls for the girls. No more dragging them out of bed! No more scrambling to make lunches at the last minute! No more nagging  to complete homework assignments! No more reminding to wear PE uniforms on PE days. No more checking to see if everyone returned their library books.

It also means: saying good bye to our friends. I hate good byes. I mean, I really hate them!

Our last day of school is June 7th.  And it'll be an extra painful day as we will have to say good bye to one wonderful family as they are moving back home to the USA…along with a few other families that are either returning to their home countries or continuing their adventures in new locations around the world (one thing this expat assignment has taught me- the world is just waiting to be explored….but you have to start by taking a leap of faith).

Anyway…a couple Fridays ago I helped host a mini going away party for one of Annika's best friends, Clair. Several months back, for the 4th Grade Art Exhibition, I made rainbow cupcakes.  The kids LOVED them and I promised Clair that I'd show her how to make them.  How about now???

YEAH! Let's make rainbow cupcakes now!!!

After baking the cupcakes come DECORATING the cupcakes.  Everybody grab a tray, a baggie of frosting and TONS of colorful sprinkles.

Go crazy!  Have fun!

Let's see – Clair, Luma, Mimi & Annika helped with the rainbow cupcake creations.  Clair's mom, Angela, and Clair's siblings (Matthew, AJ & Libby) also helped with the crazy cupcake creations.

After decorating the cupcakes comes the best part – EATING THE CUPCAKES!!!!!

Yummmmmmmmmmmmy!!!!!

And now the girls are packing up all their stuff…they're heading over to Angela's house for a sleep-over. Okay girls, have fun!!!!

Oh…and I'm still on an emotional roller coaster.  Whew.  At least in a few weeks we'll be heading back home and celebrating with family. Thank goodness!!!!!!!!!
