Chinese Menu Musings

We've lived in China for nearly two years and Every. Single. Day. we are blasted with Chinglish (Chinese to English translations that make absolutely NO sense whatsoever).  Actually, these days I'm so used to reading Chinglish that it doesn't even register as odd.  

However, every once in a while I step back and remind myself of all the funny mis-translations surrounding us.  Our favorite places to find such jewels?  RESTAURANTS!!!! 

Here are some Chinglish treasures from one of our favorite local joints, a Beijing Duck restaurant:

IMG_8731Regardless of the funny sounding English mis-translations (I'm hoping and guessing the Chinese names make lots of sense or are aptly descriptive) we do enjoy eating at this restaurant.  The Beijing Duck is such a tasty treat: you wrap up slices of roasted duck meat in a tortilla looking wrapper with some sliced cucumbers, leeks and a special sauce.  Yum!  

On this day we had a large, multiple-families outing (I'm not sure this restaurant has ever seen so many kids…Western or Chinese…all at once!).
