16 January 2015-
JaeYoon, Aleena, and Ava worked together on creating this Cardboard City for their Cities UOI. From Ava: the objective of the UOI was to observe how cities are organized to meet the needs of its inhabitants. In previous years the class would hold a Parent Tea where the parents were invited to the class and learn about their UOI projects. This year, for whatever reason, they're not hosting them. (I'm really sad about this…it was a nice way to connect with what was happening in the school.)
Here's Ava showing us the cardboard city she's been working on:
The factory is encased in a plastic bubble. Ava's got an idea that factories in the future will have some sort of enclosure that will keep all the nasty smoke and run-off chemicals within its boundaries. Interesting concept! I hope you can make it work for real!!
The city is building on a ring road system- they've got a school, a bank, and (I think) a hospital. There are a few houses represented:
And a beach! Complete with a lovely sign that says, " Enjoy your day at the beach!" Very sweet & thoughtful:
There's an airport that has this sign ("Beware! Airplanes"):
I think there's also a train station with a track that doesn't really go anywhere but I like their ideas:
Nicely done, kids!
Here's another piece of artwork Ava created. Although this does say, "Unit of Inquiry" I don't think this has anything to do with the Cities UOI.
