Annika + volleyball

8 January 2015-

Once soccer finished for the season Annika decided to try VOLLEYBALL for the first time.  She started out with the U12s (Under 12 years of age; 6th graders) however, due to a few reasons I was just made aware of, Annika and another sixth grader (Tiffany) were moved into the U13 girls team.

I got to catch one of Annika's volleyball games one afternoon after school. It was a friendly game playing against TEDA (at IST):

I haven't played a lot of volleyball but it looks like a difficult sport to play.  Most of the game I watched went like this: 1. server served the ball across and 2. the other team fails to get it.  Repeat steps 1. and 2. several times until by chance it does get back over the net where it is then missed.  Other team gets the ball and repeats steps 1. and 2. over and over again.  I didn't see much volleying (passing the ball back and forth over the net) which leads me to believe that this must be a difficult sport to master. It certainly has lots of hand-eye coordination.

24 January 2015-

The girls had a big volleyball tournament in Beijing.  I really wanted to come along but with Mark gone on a business trip I really didn't want to leave Ava the entire day.  However the girls team did FANTASTICALLY well….the won the tournament!!!!!
